After the pandemic, our society is faced with the task of reforming and adapting to the new norms. Interrupted plans scatter around our feet and on the horizons, like the intermission between acts, a sign that says “cleaning in progress.”
“Cleaning in progress” ——a notification, an announcement, and an invitation——guides us to examine our current state and behold the looming future. It reminds us that some sensations are meant to be felt, and that some memories are not to be buried.
As we enter the post-pandemic era, our isolated bodies are now forced to acknowledge new boundaries and rules. Anxiety, repression, and loneliness befall us, staining and clinging to our skin. As a result, we wish to return to the connection of our primitive emotions, moisturize our rigidness, and allow sensations to seep into our flesh. With the dirt dissolving and frothing, dirty bubbles emerge, foul but splendid, purged of all and ready to start anew.
Some bubbles and the bodies they encapsulate will be gone with the wind, and some will be carried downstream. Nevertheless, they are all likely to evaporate, dissipate, and eventually revisit our lives in different concentrations, in the forms of morning mist, torrential downpour, or an arc of a rainbow on a brand new day.
